Known for safety, Toyota sets the standard once again. Recently, Toyota landed at the top of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s award list out of all the manufacturers. Twelve was the latest highest award for TOP SAFETY PICK+, but now Toyota and Lexus hold fourteen winning spots, which is incredibly the most any manufacturer has had. Previously, the Toyota Avalon was previously recognized as a TOP SAFETY PICK winner, but as it received improvements, it now joins the ranks as a TSP+ winner.

“At Toyota, we’re committed to developing safe and reliable vehicles,” said Jeff Makarewicz, Toyota’s North American Vehicle, Quality & Safety Engineering group vice president. “The Toyota Avalon’s latest achievement is a great example of how we continually evaluate new criteria and find ways to enhance our customers’ driving experience.”

In order to qualify for the Top Safety Pick award, the vehicle must earn good ratings in the five Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests. Those tests include small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side roof strength and head restraint tests. In addition, an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating are needed to qualify for the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.
