Recently at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Toyota stunned crowds when it unveiled the ultimate sleeper car (i.e., a vehicle with unassuming looks and high-performance character). Hitting up to 1,000 horsepower with a modified 850-hp Tundra engine and nitrous shot, the heavily customized Toyota Camry XSE pictured above is like Clark Kent before he unbuttons his dress shirt to reveal his true superhero identity.

During the reveal at SEMA, spectators gasped when the car's engine was revved and were even more astonished when one of Toyota's crew members lifted the body to expose a racecar interior. Along with a completely genuine Camry shell, several other original Toyota parts were used to put the high-powered sleeper together, including a stock TRD supercharger on the engine and a transmission and rear axle from the Toyota Tundra.

With its current setup, Toyota says the Camry sleeper can do a quarter-mile run in 9.8 seconds; that's faster than a $4 million Lamborghini Veneno, which slots in at 10.6 seconds. CarandDriver.com said it's "one Camry you do not want to pick a fight with." But we think it would play nice with the new 2015 Toyota Camrys currently on our lot. Too bad this sleeper's not street legal though. It's built for the drag strip and we'd love to see it race some day.
