Toyota once again squashed the competition in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's annual crashworthiness awards. Earning itself a position at the top of the leader board, Toyota claimed the most TSP+ honors of any automotive manufacturer for the second year in a row.

TSP+ is the highest title a vehicle can receive from the IIHS and it can only be earned when a vehicle receives excellent ratings for its crash test performance, along with superior ratings for its front-crash prevention system. This year, the IIHS said vehicles had to meet even tougher criteria to earn the title, but tougher standards clearly weren't an issue for Toyota.

The automaker claimed TSP+ honors for the 2016 Prius v, Camry, Avalon, RAV4, Scion iA and several other models, all of which proved that they have what it takes to keep passengers safe. The RAV4 and Avalon earned this honor for the first time after receiving available pre-collision systems for the 2016 model year, while the Prius v and Camry have now earned the special "Plus" designation for two consecutive years.

If having a safe vehicle is important to you, choose an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ winner and enjoy everyday peace of mind on all your commutes.
