Toyota to Introduce Amazon Alexa in its Vehicles

Toyota Connect

Automotive technology has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few decades with the result that today’s modern vehicles are safer, more intuitive drive and more fuel efficient than ever before. Still, many of the biggest changes have come in the area of in-car technology, and almost every new vehicle now features a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a wide range of bells and whistles. However, Toyota has taken things one step further with the recent announcement that it will be integrating Amazon’s Alexa voice-assistant technology into many of its new vehicles.

Amazon Alexa: Coming Soon to Your Favorite Toyota Model

During the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018) in Las Vegas, Toyota officially announced that it had entered into a partnership with the online retail giant to integrate Amazon Alexa into the Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite. Although the announcement was only made recently, drivers can already take advantage of Alexa on many new 2018 models. In fact, Alexa is currently available on all new 2018 models that feature the Entune 3.0 App Suite, which includes the 2018 Camry and the 2018 Sienna.

Toyota is expected to roll out the Entune 3.0 system on more of its new models over time, and the company has already announced that even more models will feature Amazon Alexa beginning in 2019.

Bring the Amazon Alexa Advantage to Your Vehicle

The Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite already gives drivers and passengers a huge range of useful features, including a built-in WiFi network and the Remote Connect function that allows you to control your vehicle’s doors, engine and more all from your smartphone. However, the addition of Amazon Alexa gives drivers an even more impressive level of connectivity.

You can obviously use your in-car Amazon Alexa to perform any of the voice assistant’s normal ‘skills,’ such as asking it questions, composing emails, playing emails or adding items to your grocery list. Alexa can instantly provide you with suggestions for nearby businesses and services, and then provide you with turn-by-turn directions to make it easy to reach your chosen destination. In essence, Toyota’s in-car Alexa can perform all of the device’s normal functions with the addition of allowing you to control your music and entertainment system and get real-time driving directions.

This technology can help you to connect with any and all smart devices you own. Your in-car Alexa can also connect with your Alexa device at home or elsewhere. In this way, you could adjust the temperature on your home’s smart thermostat, turn the lights on in your home, set your TV to record your favorite show or open your garage door all by giving a few simple voice commands. This is the real beauty of Toyota Entune 3.0 and Amazon Alexa, as they allow you to perform a huge range of functions all without having to take your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road.

Although Toyota isn’t alone in partnering with a major tech giant to include voice-assistant technology in its new vehicles, very few if any manufacturers have been able to match the overall quality of the features and functions offered by the combination of Toyota Entune 3.0 and Amazon Alexa. Of course, there are other factors to consider when deciding which new vehicle to buy.
