Toyota's Saline, MI, research campus is now home to the newly opened Toyota Battery Center of North America. With 30,000 square feet of specialized testing and engineering space, the facility will examine cells shipped from Toyota's battery plant in North Carolina and related regional locations.

The team of engineers will measure battery longevity and engineer breakthrough energy technologies for Toyota's hybrid, hydrogen, and battery-electric models, staying true to the brand's broad-based powertrain strategy. The center manages everything from raw material verification through end-of-life recycling, establishing key in-house regional testing operations.

Open access will also be provided to the University of Michigan Electric Vehicle Center, connecting regional research talent with professional testing equipment. This cooperative agreement will prepare future technicians and engineers for advanced battery development.

Toyota's central mission with the facility is to place an emphasis on inventing new battery chemistries and designs alongside high-volume production. Devoting substantial resources to hybrid and plug-in hybrid platforms reflects robust and stable consumer demand for hybrids.

There is no doubt that the opening of the Toyota Battery Center of North America points to exciting innovations on the horizon for Toyota. Even though vehicles featuring these novel battery designs are still a few years away from showroom floors, our dealership carries an outstanding inventory of Toyota models available right now.
