What's New for the 2018 Toyota Tacoma?

The decision about which midsize truck to buy is not a matter to take lightly. This may be the vehicle that you intend to drive for many years and you want it to be safe, practical and attractive. By looking at the best-selling truck for 2017, you may get a better idea about where to turn your attention to first. The 2017 best-selling midsize truck was the Toyota Tacoma, and you may be thrilled to find that Toyota did not significantly overhaul the interior or exterior in comparison to the 2017 model. The exterior body style retains the stunningly powerful look that has attracted many buyers to it.

Toyota did not dramatically change the interior or exterior design, but it did make a significant improvement to the Tacoma in the area of safety. The 2018 Tacoma now boasts the advanced safety technology of the Safety Sense P package. This technology includes a sway warning alert, a pre-collision alert with a pedestrian crossing feature, automatic high beams, radar cruise control and a notification for lane departure. With such a substantial improvement made on a vehicle that was already a best-seller, you can see why the Tacoma may be the right truck for you to buy this year.

Trims & Features

Toyota has created six impressive trim levels for buyers to choose from in 2018. These six trim levels have different engine and cabin options, giving buyers 30 combinations to peruse. The specific trim levels available include the base SR trim, SR 5, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport, Limited and Pro TRD. Access and double cabins are available with most trims in 2018. The interior style of the Tacoma remains unchanged, and drivers can continue to enjoy many of the same convenience and comfort features in the 2018 model. A few of the features that are available as standard equipment include adaptive cruise control, a great sound system, controls for cruise and sound on the steering wheel, power and tilt adjustments for the leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless entry and ignition capabilities, power windows with one-touch ease, heated side mirrors, turn signals in the mirrors, illuminated dual vanities and more.

Horsepower

A midsize truck like the Tacoma may have a smaller size than full-size trucks on the road, but that does not mean that drivers have to forsake power and performance. The 2018 Tacoma is capable of carrying a considerable payload, and the towing capabilities vary based on the engine type that you select. Most of the 2018 trim options are available with your choice of a six or four-cylinder gas engine. If you choose a four-cylinder Tacoma, your truck will have 159 horsepower and 180 ft.-pounds of torque. If you opt for a V6 engine, your truck will have 279 horsepower with 278 ft.-pounds of torque. Toyota has incorporated other related mechanical features into the Tacoma design to add to your great experience on the road. For both engine types, other related features included are a four-wheel and six-speed automatic transmission, a front suspension with independent design, enhancements for traction and stability and other features.

Safety

2018 Toyota Tacoma InteriorMany truck buyers today are rightfully concerned about safety on the road, but you may find peace of mind knowing that the Safety Sense P features are loaded into your 2018 Tacoma. More than that, all trim levels for the 2018 Tacoma also include front tow hooks, side and front airbags with a passenger side deactivation sensor, daytime running headlights, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, an engine immobilizer, rear drum brakes and front disc brakes and more.
