If you, a friend or loved one has been submitting job applications online with no results, experts recommend attending a career fair. With hundreds of applicants to sort through, it can be difficult for employers to discern who's really the best fit for a position, and job fairs offer an element of face-to-face interaction that helps both employers and future employees figure out whether they've got a good fit.

Coming up at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Deerfield Beach, FL, United Career Fairs will be holding a job fair at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, and it is free to attend. Many companies will be there to talk to job seekers and a wide range of positions will be available, including but not limited to: account managers, financial advisors, customer service representatives, sales managers, medical and pharmaceutical sales associates, business development representatives and more. If you plan on attending, you must click here to submit your resume online and pre-register. Also note that business professional attire is required to get into this exclusive hiring event.

Additionally, if you want to ensure that you make a good impression when you arrive, follow these simple tips:

  • Bring at least 15 copies or more of your resume, and if you will likely apply to several types of jobs, bring more than one version of your resume.
  • Arrive to the event on time and appropriately dressed.
  • Prepare a brief 20-second introduction that outlines your skills. You don't want to sound like you're reading from a script, but if you're asked to tell someone a little bit about yourself, it's best to be prepared, just like you would be at a regular job interview.
  • Do not treat the job fair as a social event. Unless initiated by an HR representative, it is not wise to start a casual conversation about a non-work related topic.
  • Control your nerves and watch your manners. That is, try not to do things like fidget when you speak, chew gum or smell as though you've just had a cigarette.
  • Most importantly, have a positive attitude!
