Image: Toyota Invests in EV Charging Network IONNA to Increase Charging Access for Customers

This summer, Toyota announced its investment in the EV charging network IONNA to help develop a high-powered charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Toyota, along with six other automakers, is supporting IONNA to enhance access to charging stations for EV owners.

IONNA aims to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will feature both NACS and CCS connectors to ensure they are compatible with all BEVs. The first round of DC fast-charging stations will be launched this year, with additional installations planned nationwide.

This move underscores Toyota's commitment to BEVs. The automaker currently offers two BEV models: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. Toyota is also preparing to introduce two three-row BEV SUVs soon and plans to expand its lineup to 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.

Toyota joins other major automakers—including BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis—in backing IONNA. With these collective efforts to improve EV charging infrastructure, electric vehicles are poised to gain even more traction.
